Interoperability is the ability of different computer systems, applications, and services to exchange data, "talk" to each other, and use the information they've exchanged transparently for the user.
In the context of a Smart City, interoperability is what prevents "information silos" (where the waste software knows nothing about the traffic software).
Types of Interoperability
- Semantic: Both systems understand the data in the same way (e.g., defining what a "serious incident" is).
- Technical: Systems can physically connect (via API, Web Services, standard files).
Maptainer's open ecosystem
Unlike monolithic "all-in-one" solutions that try to do everything (and usually do it poorly), Maptainer aims to be a specialized piece that fits into the city's puzzle. We are interoperable by design:
- We connect with citizen participation platforms (Línea Verde, Gecor) to receive reports from neighbors.
- We integrate with economic systems (ERPs) for billing.
- We communicate with vertical and horizontal Smart City platforms. We don't force customers to change their entire ecosystem; we integrate into it to enhance maintenance management.
